The Road scene ~ digital

This project was part of an illustration class in which we viewed the work of illustrators and artists, from cave painters to current illustrators, and chose a number of styles to study by incorporating each one in five different pieces. In making this image I was influenced by the shadow-heavy style of Gustave Dore, and the style turned out to be very fitting for this scene from The Road, a powerfully dark fiction story I was reading at the time.
